    This is not yet a class, just an opportunity for members to indicate interest.

    The Plan:

    Now that summer travels are over, this could be the time to start the introductory tai chi class that has been talked about for a while.

    If there is enough interest, TYC will offer free classes taught by a volunteer club member.  Eventually, the class could transition to the professional instructor who now teaches the advanced class.

    Tai Chi and Its Benefits:

    Tai chi is a low stress, low effort exercise that offers multiple health benefits, promoting strength, flexibility and balance.

    An article this month in the New York Times reports that:

    • Tai chi practitioners are significantly less likely to fall or incur a fall-related injury.
    • For people with painful joints and muscles, tai chi enhances their ability to exercise within a pain-free range of motion. 
    • Tai chi has been shown to counter depression, anxiety and stress.
    • "Significant improvements involving a host of different conditions can be achieved within 12 weeks of tai chi exercises done for an hour at a time twice a week."

    The class would most likely meet on Tuesday mornings, but another day or time is possible if it works better for most participants.

    Members are encouraged to bring a spouse, partner and/or friends, including non-members. If you exercise with a friend, you are more likely to enjoy it and stick with it.

    Annual Membership Meeting and Change of Watch

    Roast squab (leg and boneless breast), celeryroot, baby beets, watercress, pinot jus
    Chick pea fritter with eggplant puree, grilled vegetable, apricot jam
